The Artist
Denis Gagnon

Born in 1960 near Montreal, this sympathetic and well-known glass engraver has been guiding the destiny of a glass engraving workshop, namely the Atelier St-Marc, for more than 12 years. The Atelier is renowned for the delicate esthetics of its pictorial creations, as well as its welcoming and friendly atmosphere.

Mr. Gagnon has completed extensive academic training in drawing, sculpture, and art history. He supplemented it with his own research on glass engraving techniques. Using sandblasting to engrave glass means he has the freedom to produce a wide variety of compositions and effects. His work expresses the calm serenity of an idyllic world. Like him, the workshop is calm and unhurried.

Denis Gagnon is a product of the fine artisan tradition where a certain lifestyle is an implicit prerequisite to the expression of his vocation as a glass engraver.

He considers the production of an engraved work of art as a passage through which a vision of the world is integrated with the owner's environment. His greatest satisfaction is to reach, wherever it may be, the little hidden dream we all hold within us. His images on glass are its reflection, and its lustre will not tarnish for decades to come.
